Labor Day Weekend---Camping!

I love camping. It brings back such fond memories of my life: campouts with my family every summer, YW camp (6 years!), numerous trips in Southern Utah with friends (Moab is a highlight!), college camping in Logan (Katy---I think of you EVERYTIME I'm woodsy), and now camping with my own family. It brings me more joy than I ever knew to have watched Josh these past few days enjoy the great outdoors.

I don't know what it is about boys and sticks, rocks, and dirt. Josh was thrilled to have so many rocks to make it "rain". He got it all over his camping chair, back down his neck, and his hair. I loved watching his expressions of happiness as he explored nature.

So, like I said before, Josh loves sticks. He likes to find the biggest ones and carry them around. Ryan and him even had their first "sword fight". Fun. Anyway, I just let him choose the biggest ones he can find to carry around. At a BBQ last night, Josh found 2 sticks. One HUGE and another big, but manageable. I took away the huge one and let him run around with the other. Another boy, Cartic, who is 2 years old, took the stick out of J's hand. His mom saw him carrying around the stick and said, "Oh, Cartic, we do not walk around with such big sticks!" and took it away. Am I a bad mom that I let Josh walk around with large sticks?

I'm also a little nervous about Josh throwing rocks. He is getting pretty good at throwing balls and we encourage it. I saw at the BBQ that he started throwing rocks. Not at people, or someone's property, just at the grass. Motherhood can sure be a challenge. You can throw balls, but not rocks. You can rip up old magazines, but not books. You can draw on paper, but not the walls. It's all trial and error on both ends, I assume!

Here are some pictures of our camping adventure. Enjoy!
