Hematologist II

Well the nurse called yesterday. My blood test results confirm that I do have Protein S Deficiency. I was relieved and sad at the same time. This means when I am pregnant (all of them) I'll continue to give myself daily shots of Heparin. It also means I will be completely and totally watched over as a high-risk pregnancy, and that is good. It means that all my babies will probably be small (Josh was 4 1/2 pounds, 3 weeks early) and induced early. But I am extremely grateful for this knowledge and that I know what to expect.

The only thing that was kind of strange was that my blood platelet count went down from the last time I was checked. She didn't exactly tell me what this meant, but that it may have been the sample they drew had a clot in it and they want to get another sample to make sure. I'll keep you updated.

The doctor wants to see me & Ryan in January to talk about precautions and suggestions for the next time I get pregnant. She's a great doctor (very well known) and I will listen and take any extra advice I can get.

Don't worry, everything will be fine. Love, Mom

It's good that they know what's wrong. Just to let you know, the shots were easier the second time around. Maybe it was the distraction of having other kids (I was too busy to dwell on it), but whatever it was, it did get easier.

Good Luck!

Hematology is an interesting but hard subject.
