Josh woke up this morning saying, "Eat, yo-yo, food". So I gave him yogurt. I admit that I haven't been very persistent at teaching him the proper way to eat with a spoon. I really don't like cleaning up messes. But I am sucking it up like a champ, stripping him down to his "di-pa", and letting him go for it. Here is a picture of him doing his best with a spoon.

...then deciding it was way too much work, he goes for the easier route. Finger lickin' good.

One thing I've noticed is that he puts his spoon upside down in his mouth. This works okay with yogurt and oatmeal, but not so much with, say, peaches. I am constantly "fixing" the way he holds his spoon but he insists on holding it incorrectly. Are there any mommies out there who have successfully taught their children how to use a spoon correctly? If so...I could really use some advice. At least he drinks out of a cup somewhat successfully, right?

It comes! I feel very confident that by the time Josh leaves on his mission, he will no longer eat yogurt with his fingers! :) You're a great mother. He is happy, healthy, very active, and absolutely adorable. Who cares if he doesn't have perfect table manners yet!
Just let him do it himself and don't jump in. After a few days he'll be a pro. If he's having a hard time scooping, just do hand over hand to help him so he feels the movement. Charlie can now get all of his food in his mouth if he wants. :) But there was lots of spilled yogurt and other food before that.
Thanks for the vote of confidence! You guys are great!
