Our 4th of July

We were extremely surprised and excited that Ryan had the 4th of July off. It was great to spend the day together as a family. It started at 7:00 am where we met together as a ward family for breakfast at Udall Park. Pancakes, sausage, fruit, and juice. A great way to start the day. We enjoyed talking and getting to know people from our wonderful ward. We also sang patriotic songs and heard a nice speech about the importance of Independence Day.
As I went in for my NST (non-stress test), Ryan took care of Joshua. It was nice to get a break from feeding him lunch and putting him down for his nap.
Ryan and I took a nap as well and when we all woke up, we made goodies for the evening. Ryan made a delicious batch of flavored candy popcorn. Our friend Erika sent us the recipe via email and it was a hit. Thanks again, Erika. I made a chicken casserole.
At 5:30, we headed over to a friend's house (from the ward) for a BBQ. They honestly have the coolest backyard that I've seen. I think if I set up a tent in their backyard, I could live there. They had a gated pool, a kiddy pool, tons of bikes/vehicles for kids, a playground with rocks, rocking horse, tables & chairs, and a "mist system" for those hot days. It was all on a lawn. This may seen odd to add, but grass is quite rare in Tucson. Anyway, it was awesome. We had a great time talking, eating, and playing games.
It rained and *I believe* that the fireworks were cancelled. But we wouldn't really know. We all came home and crashed at 9:00! Another great 4th of July to go down in Porter History.

No fireworks?! Ash Kyle and I bought a bunch from the grocery store and enjoyed almost lighting ourselves and each other on fire (and almost losing limbs) each time we lit them off. Maybe we should have put them farther back and not lit new ones with the ones that were still going. But what would be the fun of that? And incidentally I'm no longer allowed to throw fireworks. Or so I've been told:)

We went to sleep before fireworks, too. How funny!

Okay, there were fireworks, they just didn't start until 9:30. We watched them from our house. We could only see the top half, but it's the tradition, right? We went home shortly after you guys did. And I agree, that's the greatest kids yard ever.
