Picasso Back at Work

It's definitely been one of "those weeks". Yesterday Joshy decided to decorate his "big boy bed" with crayons during his naptime. He is definitely my little artist. Our deck is also covered in sidewalk chalk art---walls, floor, and his sandbox.
Anyway, I was so upset that I couldn't even yell. I just stared in silence at the scene and grabbed my camera so I could document the makings of our monster. Josh said, "cheese!" as I took the picture. I thought I had done a great job teaching Josh that we "only color on paper". He had done great up until now. When I asked him if his bed was paper, his answer was an astounding "YES!" Aaarg.
And yet I learn another lesson as a parent: Don't leave toddlers alone with a box of crayons. Ever.
Thank goodness for Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser. That stuff came off like, well, magic!

P.S. Don't judge me too harshly that Joshy still sleeps with a binky. I haven't gotten up the nerve to send them to the binky fairy yet. Something that needs to happen soon, I know.
P.S.S. He is taking naps again, though. I am very fortunate that he has fallen asleep (even after the crayon episode) every day this week thus far.
P.S.S.S. Life is hard without Ryan around. I miss him soooo much! This residency thing is turning out to be a bit trickier than I had imagined (and the baby hasn't even come yet!)

Ack! I'm so sorry! I hat when you get blindsided like this, it makes for a tough mom day. Luckily he has such a great mom to remember to document because you will laugh about it later, especially since it all cleaned up. It's hard to have your husband away, especially after the winding down time of 4th year, but you guys will do fabulous! You have the right attitude, an adorable son & a great husband. There is a funny resident wife blog where moms whose husbands are residents share funny stories like this, if you ever want to know you're not alone, email me and I'll invite ya! Keep smiling, you're doing a great job!

Way to handle a tough situation! I think kids look especially cute after they have made a mess. Maybe that is Heaven's way of lessening the blow! (: I know what you mean about residency. I feel spoiled remembering 4th year--only 11 more months of internship year to go!

That is fabulous! He is quite the artist. It looks like he used his entire canvas. :)

I'm so sorry! Those weeks are tough (and my husband is home every night). I think you did a fabulous job. Every couple of years, I scour the house to find any crayon, colored pencil, or marker that is NOT washable and get rid of it. I don't care how much I give away - it simply isn't worth owning anything other than washable.

By the way, don't let anyone judge you on the binkie situation. Austin was 3 years, 2 months before we got rid of his, and it was only because he got his tonsils and adnoids out so he couldn't suck anyway. I think I cried harder than he did. The binkie (or "ba-da" as Austin called it) was pure magic. Whenever I put it in his mouth, his eyes rolled back in his head and he fell asleep. In the morning, or after naps, he would toss it on his bed, but it was an absolute necessity for sleep. It was worth the ease and peace, especially after Macy was born. You are doing great and so is he! Let him keep until Kindergarten if you need!

Best of luck these last few weeks of pregnancy. And I would LOVE to take pictures of your boys next time you are in Utah. Let me know!

Kim, I'm glad to see that other children express themselves on things other than paper. Sorry that your hubby is gone so much. That is so hard, we moms need breaks and dates! Maybe you need to take a trip out to Utah and we can go get Cummings chocolate covered strawberries! You are fabulous, we miss ya!

I think you handled it very well, I'm not sure what I'll do WHEN that happens!

Wow, Josh is quite the little artist. Tell him that Grandma still loves him.
