I Am Now a 5K Runner

I ran my very first ever 5K race on Saturday. I have been training for it the past 2 months. And 2 months ago I was in no shape for this race. I trained for this with some friends and was working up to the 3.2 miles. My goal was to finish it in 35 minutes (11 minute miles).

I started off super fast and was keeping up well with Janae. Then around 2 miles I got a bad splinter in my right side, pain in my lower back and shoulder. I had to walk. During the entire last month of training, I never walked before the 3rd mile. I never got sick. I never got a splinter. Then the day of the big race it happened. It was a disappointment, to say the least. Next time I will not eat sausage 3 hours before the race. I know, I know, I'm an idiot. I've been told...

However, because I started so quickly and walked/ran the last mile, I still met my goal of 35:08. A success, yes. But, it is not my last race. My next goal will be 30 minutes (10 minute miles).

My friend wants me to train with her to do a "mini-triatholon" which will be a challenge for me. I have never been a good swimmer or biker. But, I am up for the challenge. Although, my next feat will be the Bisbee 1000 (running a 5K up and down stairs) which I am looking forward to in the Fall.

This picture is so goofy of me, I know. But it's the only one proof I have of me actually running the race. And, NO, I don't run with a perma-grin on my face. I smiled because I saw the camera. Next time I know to put on my "game face" because I just look like a nut with a smile.

Way to go! What an accomplishment! That race going up and down stairs sounds intense! Good luck training for that!

Very impressive! I told Rich that I am now to the point where I am thinking about setting a goal to set a goal to run a race...it's a slow process for me.
Congrats!

My name is Jill. I hope this doesn't freak you out, but I love to find blogs that are interesting or ones I can relate to and I came across yours through a friend of a friend of a friend and so on! I live in Lehi Utah, but I am from Tucson! It was so heartwarming to see pics from Mt. Lemmon and Sabino Canyon. I practially lived at both those places for a long time but it's been a while since I have been back.

I also love running and I have gone back and forth training with my husband. I would love to finish a 5k or marathon! Congrats to you. I bet it felt awesome.
