Permanent Primary Substitute

This is my new calling. I'm not quite sure what to think of it yet. Some moments I feel like it's a made-up calling that they gave me just to satisfy me for the next 8 months in this ward. Other times I feel lucky because I can attend Relief Society most of the time and I don't really have to do anything. But I love serving in the Church and that's why this calling mostly makes me feel sad. I'd love to have a big calling. But I also realize that while I want one, it won't happen (at least while I still want it). I think it's one of those humbling things.

The 1st councelor explained to me that Primary teachers just aren't showing up. I don't understand this. When I was in Primary, I always found a substitue & even if I didn't...I would at least call the presidency and let them know. Anyway, it is a common problem in this ward (apparently), thus the calling. I guess that I will need to have a few lessons "on hand" when I go to church, but I won't know if I'm teaching until Primary begins. And it will probably be different classes each time I substitute.

Overall, I think that the calling will teach me to think on my feet, be flexible, and patient. Hopefully I'll be able to meet all the cute kids in our ward & share my testimony with them. I do love kids...all of them. Even the "challenging" ones. I do know that the Lord knows what He is doing. I just need to trust in that & do my best. I think if I go in with that attitude, I'll enjoy it.

HI Kim!
Good Luck with your new Calling! I am sure it will be fun, although I didn't know that they had a calling for that. I wish you the best, and I hope you do get to meet all the fun kids in 1st ward. We miss having Josh in our Nursery class, but we hope he is enjoying nursery in the first ward.

Love,
Holly and Micah Gray

As the Primary President, I can honestly tell you how much you are loved and appreciated! We rarely have a week when all of our teachers show up, and we have a few that rarely come to Sacrament Meeting and Sharing Time, so they pop in right before class. This stresses me out! So, from my perspective, please consider this a compliment to your diligence and dedication to the gospel. And look how many lives you can touch - every single child in Primary. You'll be great!

Kim,
As I read your post it I started thinking about the first ward, there are some great people there. I am sure this will be a wonderful calling for you, you get the best of both worlds- RS some of the time and a chance to teach for the other times.

Thanks for all your support!

Holly- We wish that Josh had you & Micah as Nursery teachers, too. I've heard you're great with the kids. He is liking Nursery, though. It was an easy transition and it makes church so much better for us! Hooray for Nursery teachers. You are SOOO appreciated!

Emily- You have no idea how much I needed to hear that! It makes me feel so much better about this calling.

Kristl- I do really like the 1st ward. They have the greatest people there. Plus, I get to see a lot of people from the 2nd ward still because of aerobics and other activities. It's a wonderful place to be. I appreciate your perspective of being able to do both. :) Thanks.

If your calling doesn't take up too much of your time, you will be able to enjoy your last few months of Charlottesville! While D.C. is great, we miss C-ville and all our great friends there!

Great idea, Elysa. I'm not going to fret about it. :) It really is a blessing.
