Thanksgiving 2009

Thankgiving 2009: Just our little family this year. It was our first Thanksgiving without being guests or having guests. And it was very enjoyable. I actually really liked cooking this year, although some foods were better than others:

MY THANKSGIVING REPORT CARD:
turkey: D-
(sad, huh?) Ryan wanted to buy the Jennie-o meat that was pre-packaged white turkey meat. Dis-gust-ing. It looked like a time saver (1 1/2 cooking time). Never again. And I miss yummy turkey sandwich leftovers...

stuffing: C
I tried to make my mom's recipe, and ended up being tempted by the pre-cut celery/onion mix and ruined it. So, I just made Stove Top.

mashed potatoes: B
Pretty good, but there were a few chunks in there...

gravy: D
Ryan mixed the turkey gravy and brown gravy togther. DON'T DO THIS!

sweet potatoes: A
Ryan makes the best sweet potatoes in the world (although he was this close to burning them...he turned it on broil for a few minutes so we could eat faster...they were the last thing to come out of the oven)

rolls: A
Thank you, Rhodes...

cranberry thanksgiving jell-o: A
My mom's recipe is priceless.

vegetable tray: A+
Without this, Josh wouldn't have eaten anything. Plus, those mini-sausages were super good! Nate very much enjoyed the olives. He got the bowl out of the fridge later and took 1 bite out of all of them.

corn: ???
Can you really grade canned yellow corn?

apple cide: F
Yuck. Costco has failed me.

A&W Rootbeer: A
Saved the day.

deviled eggs: A-
Tasted delicious, but were hard to peel, so some didn't look quite right.

apple pie/ice cream: A
Marie Callendars...so good. But it should've been refrigerated (it said not to on the box...liars.)

But seriously, spending the day as a family was GRADELESS! (ha ha)

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!

Our little rascal pulled the Jell-o salad off the table and was playing in it. We were happy we caught him before it stained the floor!

We love how Josh and Nate are starting to play together. It is joyous to hear their laughter. Here's a fun clip right after Thanksgiving dinner.

Fun! Sorry things didn't work out as tasty as you would have liked. Nice that you all got to be together though!

Way to go on cooking an entire thanksgiving dinner by yourself, I'd say overall you got an A++ just for that alone! I love hearing what other people have as their traditional Thanksgiving dinner, it's interesting how different everyone is!

Sounds just wonderful. Good for you for going all out! And I love lumps in my mashed potatoes. It bugs me if they are too smooth...too perfect!

I like chunks in my potatoes... so you can knock that sucker up to an 'A', because some people like them that way!
You had an amazing menu! I think you had as much variety as we did, and we had huge amounts of people. So GREAT job!
