Book Review - It Takes a Mother to Raise a Village

All I can say about this book is WOW! My sister-in-law gave this to me for Christmas and I loved it. It's basically a book about how wonderful mothers are and gives suggestions about how to survive and love what you're doing. There were times in this book that I laughed out loud, but through most of it I was sobbing (I'm a very emotional person and whenever I relate to something, I cry).

My favorite chapter was about the 5 things that mothers need consistently in their lives. They are: social interaction (with other women), spirituality (prayer/scriptures), creativity (scrapbooking, quilting), education (classes, reading), and physical fitness (running, gym). She said that if any women lacks one of these, she is likely to get depressed. What an eye-opener for me and I fully agree.

Another favorite chapter was on raising boys. Since I just have one boy, I loved reading what he needs to turn into a good man in this upside down world: 1. Teach them to deny themselves (not letting them have everything they want) 2. Teach them to work (mainly outside, manly stuff) 3. Teach them to be a man (only a father can do this---our job is to step aside) 4. Refine them (manners, no rude behavior) 5. Love them (high love, low anxiety).

Anyway, if you're looking for a good book to lift up your self-esteem, this one is perfect. Happy reading! :)
